Interview

Laura, tell us about your musical journey

I was born in Sienna. I began by studying the piano and as a child sang in an amateur chorus. They had me sing as a soloist, but I did not want to study voice. I began piano at the age of 8 and thought singers were not real musicians! Then I met a Polish soprano who was teaching in Sienna, Anastasia Tomarcewska Schepis, and at the age of 18 I began lessons.
The summer courses at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Sienna gave me the opportunity to study with Shirley Verrett, Alfredo Kraus and Carlo Bergonzi.

In 1992 I did my last year of studies in Italy in Verona, and started doing voice competitions, among these Treviso (Toti dal Monte) which allowed me to make my debut in The Turk in Italy. This was followed by 2 years of study in Munich at the Hochschule für Musik, the "Neuen Stimmen" prize and the finals of the Belvedere in Vienna.

For a year, I was a member of the Bonn Opera, where I began in the role of Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Then more competitions ("Ricciarelli" in Mantua, Mario del Monaco), followed by appearances at La Scala, Bologna, Seattle, Barcelona, Lausanne, Paris and Florence.

What are your favorite roles?

Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Angelina in Cenerentola, Cherubin in The Marriage of Figaro, Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte, Sesto in Clemenza di Tito, Idamante in Idomeneo, Elena in Donna del Lago di Rossini and Dulcinée in Massenet Don Quichotte.

Who is your ideal singer?

Teresa Berganza, in every role she sings!

What are your dreams?

To sing the roles I love by Rossini and Mozart, with casts of top musical quality, and also in a friendly atmosphere.

What are your hobbies?

I like to discover life around me in this world, and music gives me the chance to do this. I love nature, walking in the woods, but above all, I love the sea and relaxing in the sun!

What are the difficulties in your daily life?

The solitude of travel and not being able to share discoveries with those I love.
